Because WW Workshops aren’t just for women
As a guy, you might envision a WW meeting as being a women’s club—with ladies from the neighborhood gathering at the local Studio to gossip and debate the (SmartPoints) values of baked goods. And maybe you think that walking into that situation as a guy will be uncomfortable, or that you’ll be an outsider drawing glares and stares from a room full of women. Man, you couldn’t be more mistaken. “It’s a little odd,” said one member, who attended his local meeting every week. “I’ve been to WW Workshops where I was the only guy.” But that doesn’t mean that men are unwelcome. “It’s ultimately about the one thing that brought us together,” he said. “We were all trying to reach our healthy lifestyle goals.” He said the best thing about attending WW Workshops was the routine of coming every week. It gave him the motivation to persevere through the ups and downs of his weight-loss experience. Plus, he says the cooking tips really helped. “Being a single guy, I didn’t like cooking,” he said. “You talk to the moms and older ladies there, and you have ten thousand ways of cooking food I would’ve never imagined.”

How WW works for men
WW is effective for men because it’s flexible, there’s a support group, and you don’t eliminate food groups. It’s all based on choosing nutritionally dense foods that fill you up the longest, so your eating plan is lower in calories, saturated fat and sugar, and higher in protein. The WW program is an advanced, scientifically designed approach to helping you reach your personal goals. Based on the idea that losing weight and getting healthy are the result of reaching a series of realistic goals, the WW program is a comprehensive way to learn how to achieve and then maintain a healthy body weight for the long term. The Freestyle program addresses the whole you. You learn to eat in a more healthy way, move more, and even find more time for yourself to do the things you enjoy.

What happens in a meeting
So, what should you do if you want to attend a meeting? The first thing is to find the right one for you. Check out The Studio Finder (above) it’s a good place to start. Pick one that fits best with your schedule and give it a go. If that woman thing is still bothering you, don’t hesitate to give us a call at 215-648-1000 to ask if there is a guy who is a Wellness Coach at a WW near you. WW Workshops generally last around 30 minutes. Once you’ve registered, you’ll meet with your Wellness Coach. You will discuss your goals and get a wellness check in. This is all done privately–your weigh-in is confidential. Once you’ve been signed-in and weighed, take a seat.

It’s not uncomfortable; you don’t even have to introduce yourself
Actually, you don’t have to say a thing! As much or as little as you’d like. It’s all about what you’re comfortable with. Every week there’s a different theme, so the WW Workshops vary weekly. The WW Wellness Coach will open the conversation to the group. They discuss milestones, successes, slips, or achieved goals they’d like to share. “WW is big on stickers. So when you lose your first five pounds and pretty much a star for every five pounds thereafter, all the way up until finally your gold card for making goal and becoming a Lifetime Member. Listen, you might not be into the little stickies, but they are indeed little tokens representing your success, and that can help keep you motivated. I have to admit when I first started, I thought it was so cheesy,” he told me. “People getting excited about these little stars. Come on, I’m a guy! However, I realized when I started looking at all my stars, I was like ‘oh, these are my accomplishments’. I loved it, actually!”

Don’t be a wuss. WW Workshops aren’t women-only clubs, and they are one of the best ways to help you lose weight. Find the right one in your area and get started! “I used to wake up every morning, and I hated myself. I would look in the mirror and I hated what I saw. Once I started losing weight I started getting this confidence back. Every week I lost more weight, I felt more confident about myself.”
